Coastal Marine Space for Native People, Desertores Islands – Chaitén, Chile
This project is aimed to support and strengthen the request for a new Coastal Marine Site for Native People, in a vast sea area spreading between Desertores Archipelago and Chaiten Coast, in Chiloé inland sea, Northern Patagonia. This project is pursuing to make a conservation plan establishing the basis for the future administration plan of the Protected Marine Coastal Site. This is a project with a bottom-up approach, and has a strong local component, which bases on local ecology knowledge, and the community interest in conserving marine eco-systems, with a cultural and biological approach. This project is under a contract carried out with Austral Patagonia Program, from the Austral University of Chile.
