Fundacion Conservación Marina

 

We promote the conservation of threatened species, ecosystem services, and marine biodiversity, with an emphasis on conservation planning, the protection of high-value conservation areas, dissemination, training, and citizen science as tools for marine nature conservation.

Milestones

 

·Trained over 100 people through six editions of the Wetland Management and Conservation Course.
• Contributed to the official protection of three marine wetlands through the designation of Nature Sanctuaries: Maullín River Wetlands, Bahía Curaco de Vélez Marine Wetland, and Bahía de Quinchao Marine Wetland.
• Achieved international recognition for two marine and coastal wetlands in the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network (WHSRN).
• Contributed to the conservation of 10,000 hectares of coastal marine wetlands.
• Organized ten editions of the FAVAT BirdFair in Curaco de Vélez, integrating the conservation of shorebirds and wetlands with the culture and traditions of the Curaco community.
• Published 10 scientific articles, 4 books, 2 specialized guides, bulletins, and various technical reports to support conservation efforts and inform management decisions for marine wetlands and shorebirds.
